It will take a “green army” to help end deforestation and plant a future. Every day, every person can make a difference. All it takes is a little focus on how you can reduce, reuse, recycle, rethink and, of course, replant.
Around the world, throughout 2011, stylish and affordable Avon Hello Green Tomorrow fundraising products are raising funds to help restore the forests of South America and Indonesia. All proceeds will support the work of our partners The Nature Conservancy and World Wildlife Fund.
Avon will contribute all proceeds from the Hello Green Tomorrow merchandise sales to The Nature Conservancy for continuing efforts in the Atlantic Rainforest in South America and to the World Wildlife Fund for their reforestation projects in Indonesia (Borneo and Sumatra). Choose a shower over a bath and keep your shower brief. A full bathtub requires about 70 gallons of water (265 liters), but a five-minute shower uses only 10 to 25 gallons (38 to 94 liters). Also install a water-efficient showerhead to control the water flow.
If you drive to work, on two days a week consider working from home, biking or using public transportation. If you do, greenhouse gas emissions will be reduced by an average of 1,600 pounds per year (according to the US Environmental Protection Agency).
Resist the temptation to warm up your car before you leave the house in the morning. Running the engine unnecessarily is wasteful! Instead keep a pair of extra cozy gloves or a scarf in the car to keep you warm until the heat is running.
Even though a warm shower can feel great in the winter try not to linger in the shower. Just a few extra minutes can waste gallons of water! Dry off quick and grab your winter sweater to warm up without hurting the environment.
Bundle up as the seasons change and try to conserve heat! Keep your thermostat just a little bit lower and add an extra sweater, or comfy socks to stay warm. Not only will you be helping the environment but you will be amazed at how much money you can save!
